Autumn-Winter on the Riverbank

Autumn-Winter on the Riverbank - Square Blades

Fall into Autumn Rowing in Style

by Kristi Carignan, Fashion Editor

Autumn is here – there’s a chill in the air and the trees are putting on their annual display of reds, golds and browns, bringing an end to another British summer. Nothing is more British than spending time on the river – after all, there are almost a hundred major rivers within Great Britain, all offering a number of sports and activities, and countless more lakes and minor ones dotted around the country.

As we move into this cooler season, we look forward to a new series of rowing events in the British calendar including the Head of the River Fours (HoR4s), Women’s Eights Head of the River Race (WEHoRR) and the Head of the River Race (HORR) – the biggest race of the winter season and the one most clubs will have been training for all winter.

As the months unfold and the foliage changes into its Autumn dress, it’s time for us to do the same as we swap tee shirts and shorts for hoodies and cosy sweatshirts. Rowing is all about staying the distance which means that your clothing needs to work as hard as you do.

Our Faulkner New Established hoodie is the perfect solution for those ready to embrace their winter wardrobes. Available in Autumn 2017’s go-to colours – French navy and burgundy marl – this incredibly warm and comfy super-premium hoodie is perfect for the transition between seasons. If you like wearing layers, then consider our premium Frodsham Sweatshirt overtop a smarter dress shirt for an easy club-house to town look.

The thought of Autumn brings with it images of crisp, bright days and chilly evenings, bonfires and Halloween and, of course, colder days on the river. When it comes to rowing apparel, layers and warm Autumn tones are the key to moving on from summer in effortless style.  We offer an extensive range of men’s and women’s premium quality t-shirts in classic casual dark grey, navy, burgundy and on-trend vintage green which can be mixed and matched with our range of sweatshirts and hoodies for low-key layering. Also available are a number of accessories including our classic bucket hats and heritage beanies to help protect you from the elements when you’re in your element on the river.

This season, green is big news in fashion and our men's Sutton Temple Island sweatshirt in vintage green is perfect for a cool-down walk by the river after a session. Classic and super-comfy, its 85% cotton construction is both warm and breathable. Perfectly matched with the vintage green sweatshirt is the Churton Temple Island Polo Shirt in white which is ideal for down time and looking good too.

We also have a range of fun slogan tee shirts, perfect for relaxed evenings spent with friends after an invigorating day’s training on the river. New to our women’s range is the Rowing, Naps & Nutella sweatshirt – a fun, comfy and lightweight addition to your wardrobe in on-trend pale grey with slogan and a comfortable crew neck.

As we prepare for long winter nights of training and weekends on the water, Square Blades has got you covered in comfy, warm styles as we embrace the most beautiful time of year on the river.
